VMware vSphere Remote Access Servers

VMware vSphere requires expensive, enterprise class hardware to install and run. Typical VMware environment include name brand PC servers, Storage Area Networks, multiple networks, and much more.
VMware's high end hardware needs present a real barrier to those who want to learn vSphere - but who lack access to enterprise class hardware. IT Administrators who need to practice their VMware skills also need access to practice hardware, so they can test ESX upgrades, VM configuration changes, etc.
ESXLab provides a solution... We have 55 HP DL365 enterprise class servers available for rent. Our servers are configured into server pods of between 8 and 12 servers. Each server pod includes:

HP DL365 servers. Each server has 4-5GB of RAM, up to 300GB of disk, 3-1GB NICs, full remote management with HP's Integrated Lights Out (power cycle, reboot, etc), and ILO Advance for full GUI remote console access.
An iSCSI SAN with private and shared storage LUNs for VMFS practice
NFS Shares to serve up install media for VM creation (both Windows and Linux install media available)
vCenter VMs on which to install, configure and use VMware vCenter
PXE Boot Services that let you chose the version of ESX (including ESX 3.5, ESX 4.0 and ESX 4.1) that you can install into your HP DL365 server
Full Internet Access for easy access from anywhere on the Internet
Access via Microsoft Terminal Services. All of our remote servers are accessed through Microsoft Terminal services. So any Windows or Linux desktop can access our remote servers from any internet connected location.

Our servers are permanently housed in a Class A datacenter that features 4 Internet back bone connections, triple redundant cooling, back up diesel generators and other infrastructure to ensure continuous availability and top performance.
Our servers can be rented individually or in groups of up to 12 (or more if needed). Rental periods range from as little as one day to as long as you need.
Our server pods are designed to work with our aftermarket VMware training courseware (ESXLab's VMware vSphere with ESX 4 and vCenter course). All of our course's labs will work flawlessly on our remote access server pods.
For more information or to arrange for your own remote access server, please contact me:

(905) 451-9488 x100

Office:
(905) 451-9488 x100

Mobile:
(416) 890-8191

E-mail:
larry.karnis@esxlab.com

Web Site:
http://www.esxlab.com

Thanks,
Larry

Published book: Making Process Improvement Work

Every development organization can benefit by paying attention to process improvement, yet all too many "process improvement initiatives" fail to deliver on their promises. In this concise book, two of the field's leading consultants present easy-to-apply techniques for achieving rapid and quantifiable benefits -- and then maintaining your momentum to deliver even greater value over time. Drawing on their experience with more than 3,000 developers and 100 organizations, Neil S. Potter and Mary E. Sakry show you exactly what works -- and what doesn't work. Next, they present a step-by-step guide to identifying your best opportunities for process improvement, deploying changes effectively, and tracking your progress. The book also includes a detailed example plan document designed to help you jumpstart your process improvement initiative. Making Process Improvement Work includes a foreword by noted software process expert Karl Wiegers. For all developers, project and IT managers, and clients seeking to maximize the effectiveness of the software development process and the value of the software it delivers.

The kit includes a well-written, 100-plus page manual that guides you through:* Workstation and target setup and configuration* Building a kernel image and a root filesystem in Flash* Basic application development and debugging* Accessing hardware with and without device drivers* Networking, and moreThe E.L.L.K. is built around a single board computer (SBC) with an ARM9 processor and a preloaded Linux kernel. Plug in, turn on and boot up. It’s that simple! The board features:* 180 MHz, 200 MIPS ARM9 processor (Atmel AT91RM9200)* 64 MB of SDRAM* 16 MB of parallel flash* 32 MB NAND flash* 16 KB bootloader EEPROM* SD/MMC socket* Parallel LCD interface* 10/100 Ethernet port* USB 2.0 host and device ports* RS-232 serial port for debugging* On-board temperature sensor* User-programmable LEDs* Optional LCD graphics displayIn addition to the SBC, the E.L.L.K. includes a brick power supply, serial and Ethernet crossover cables, users’ manual and a CD with:* Cross-development tools* Kernel source* Eclipse IDE* Tutorial code samples
