CompTIA A+ Essentials Part 1, is the first of 2 courses that covers the material you will need to know in order to take the CompTIA A+ Essentials 2009 Edition Exam 220-701. This course provides the fundamentals of computer technology and the issues revolving around the PC world. Included in this part are an exploration of basic computer terminology, the function of some of the more common components inside an average computer as well as common problem and how to troubleshoot them.

The CompTIA A+ certification is the industry standard for computer support technicians and over 700,000 people worldwide have become CompTIA A+ certified since 1993. The international, vendor-neutral certification proves competence in areas such as installation, preventative maintenance, networking, security and troubleshooting. CompTIA A+ certified technicians also have excellent customer service and communication skills to work with clients.
The latest version of CompTIA A+ is CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition. Two exams are necessary to be certified: CompTIA A+ Essentials, exam code 220-701; and CompTIA A+ Practical Application, exam code 220-702. CompTIA A+ Essentials measures the necessary competencies of an entry-level IT professional with at least 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. It tests for the fundamentals of computer technology, networking and security, as well as the communication skills and professionalism now required of all entry-level IT professionals.
CompTIA A+ Practical Application is an extension of the knowledge and skills identified in CompTIA A+ Essentials, with more of a "hands-on" orientation focused on scenarios in which troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolve problems.
The CompTIA A+ Essentials exam is made up of 100 questions and lasts 90 minutes. You will need a passing score of 675 for CompTia A+ Essentials on a scale of 100 to 900. The exam is provided in English and Spanish and the exam code for CompTIA A+ Essentials is 220-701. CompTIA certification exams are provided through Pearson VUE and Prometric and you can visit their sites to find the closest testing center to you.
